Late News
We had another great roll-up for the September screening of our tribute to Maggie Smith in
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. A great film, with a very strong role played by Maggie Smith, that left you
wondering was she enlightened or being a bit evil.
This month we are screening two shortish films on 18 October 2025.
The first film, Ablaze, is a powerful documentary where Tiriki Onus, uncovers the remarkable life of his
charismatic grandfather William (Bill) Onus using historical footage found at the National Film and Sound archive.
The film traces Bill's struggles to gain recognition for his First Nations peoples culture, language and community
through performance, entertainment and film. Bill was possibly Australia's first indigenous filmmaker.
Directed by Alec Morgan and Tiriki Onus.
The second film, Pawno, follows one day in the life of 12 residents of a multicultural inner-city suburb of
Melbourne , who all visit an ageing pawnbroker. Within a day, lives intersect and motives are examined. (IMDB)
Directed by Paul Ireland and stars John Brumpton, Maeve Dermody and Malcolm Kennnard.
Doors open at 6:00 pm for members and their guests to enjoy their BYO meals and drinks,
and to socialise before the film.
Please note that the membership fee for the remaining half of season 2025 is $30 per person and
needs to be paid before the screening on 18 Oct 25.
Payment details can be found on the membership form which is available under the Membership tab
in the menu above. Alternatively, you can pay your membership by cash at the door, if preferred.
Renewing members do not need to submit a new membership form unless their contact details
have changed since last season, just make a payment to the Film Society account,
making sure that your name(s) is/are included in the Reference or Comment fields
of the EFT payment, so we can readily identify your payment. It would also help if you
emailed info@gundaroofilms.com to advise of your payment.
Looking forward to another great roll-up on Sat 18 Oct 25.
